Lyric Theatre Hammersmith

Description:

The Lyric Theatre Hammersmith, often simply called The Lyric, is one of London's leading producing theatres. Located in the heart of Hammersmith, West London, it is renowned for its innovative productions, strong commitments to new writing, and dedication to nurturing emerging talent.

The theatre has a rich history dating back to 895, when the original Lyric Opera House opened. Although much of the old building was demolished in the 1960's, the beautiful Victorian auditorium was carefully preserved and rebuilt within a modern complex, reopening in 1979. This combination of historic charm and contemporary facilities makes the Lyric a truly unique cultural venue.

The Lyric is well known for its diverse programming, which ranges from bold new plays and reimagined classics to family shows, musical, and experimental work. It also serves as a vital community hub, offering a wide range of educational and outreach projects that engage young people and local residents.

With its blend of heritage and innovation, the Lyric Theatre Hammersmith continues to play a key role in London's cultural life, creativity, inclusivity, and artistic excellence.
