Getting a Tattoo While Visiting London
Thinking about getting a tattoo while visiting London? You might have a design planned before you arrive, or decide while you’re here that you’d like something to remember the visit.
At Hammersmith Tattoo London, we welcome visitors for both appointments and walk-ins. Whether you’re considering a small tattoo, matching designs with a friend or a larger custom piece, a little planning helps you fit the appointment and aftercare around your trip.

Can I get a walk-in tattoo while visiting London?
Yes. We welcome walk-ins every day, subject to artist availability.
Same-day tattoos may be possible, but the design, size, placement and time available all matter. A small, straightforward piece may be easier to accommodate than a detailed custom design.
Call us on 020 7602 1086 before setting off so we can check availability. You’re also welcome to drop in, although we can’t guarantee an immediate appointment.
Should I book before arriving?
If you have a particular date, artist or design in mind, getting in touch before your trip gives us more time to plan.
Send us:
Your tattoo idea and any reference images.
The approximate size in centimetres.
Where you’d like it placed.
Whether you want black and grey or colour.
The dates you’re available in London.
We can discuss the idea, suggest a suitable artist and explain the next steps. Free consultations are available if you’d like help with the design.
Leave room in your itinerary for the consultation, paperwork, stencil placement and tattooing. Avoid putting an appointment immediately before a flight, train or timed attraction.

Small tattoos and London-inspired ideas
A tattoo marking your visit doesn’t have to be a skyline or landmark. It could be a word, flower, animal, meaningful symbol or a design connected to someone you’re travelling with.
If you want a London theme, ideas might include a red telephone box, a favourite building or a detail from a place you’ve enjoyed visiting.
For small tattoos, the artist can advise on a size that suits the design and placement. Fitting more detail into a smaller space isn’t always the best approach, especially with lettering and fine lines.
Browse our tattoo artists to find work you like, or send us your idea and we’ll help you choose.
Can friends or couples get matching tattoos?
You’re welcome to enquire about matching tattoos or several people getting tattooed during the same visit.
Tell us how many people are coming and send each person’s design, size and placement. Even matching designs may need different appointments or adjustments.
Let us know if being tattooed at the same time matters to you. This depends on artist availability and needs to be arranged beforehand.

How much will my tattoo cost?
Our minimum charge is £60. Tattoos on the face, neck, hands, fingers and ribs start at £80.
The final price depends on the design, size, placement, detail and artist. A small tattoo can still involve careful preparation and detailed work, so send us your idea for a quote rather than judging by size alone.
See our pricing page for more information.
What ID and payment should I bring?
You must be at least 18 to get tattooed at our studio. Parental permission does not allow someone under 18 to get a tattoo.
Bring valid, original physical photo ID, such as your passport or driving licence. We do not accept photographs or copies of ID. If you’re unsure whether your ID is suitable, check with us before visiting.
Tattoo payments on the day are in cash, in pounds sterling. We also accept all major Credit and Debit cards including American Express. Deposits can be paid through our website.
For booked appointments, a deposit secures your slot. Read our deposit policy before paying, particularly if your travel dates might change.

Looking after your tattoo while travelling
Plan for aftercare as well as the appointment. Your tattoo will still be healing when you leave the studio, so consider the rest of your trip before choosing a date and placement.
Follow your artist’s instructions for the dressing, cleaning and moisturising. While the tattoo heals:
Avoid swimming, hot tubs and soaking it in water.
Keep it out of direct sunlight.
Choose clothing that doesn’t rub against it.
Avoid picking or scratching.
Keep your hands clean before touching the area.
If your next stop involves a beach holiday, swimming or a spa, discuss the timing with us before booking. A waterproof dressing is not a substitute for allowing the tattoo to heal before swimming.
Think about practical details too: shoes can rub a foot tattoo, backpack straps can press on a shoulder tattoo, and tight waistbands can irritate a hip tattoo.
Read our tattoo aftercare guide before your visit. You can contact us with aftercare questions once you’re home. If you suspect an infection or feel unwell, seek medical advice promptly.
